Description of the session:
The criminal justice system and mental health practitioners have been faced with increasing numbers of individuals who access online images involving the sexual exploitation of children (Child Sexual Exploitation Material/Child pornography). This presentation will examine some of the common characteristics of those who access child sexual exploitation material, risk factors unique to these offenders, recidivism rates, appropriate and inappropriate risk measures and responsivity factors such as denial and neurodiversity. Some of the treatment needs that we will discuss include: healthy Internet use, sexual preoccupation, sexual functioning/sexual competence, sexual attraction to children, and relationship building abilities. We look forward to exploring this digital population in more detail and discussing their particular needs within the criminal justice system.
Participants in this presentation may claim up to 1.5 hours of CPD credit with LSBC.
