Originally, the College was called the Medical Council of British Columbia. It was established in 1886 by the British Columbia Medical Act, S.B.C., 1886, c.13.
Before 1886, the practice of medicine was regulated by the government under the Medical Ordinance, 1867, R.S.B.C. 1871, No. 88.
