The Court of Appeal is made up of justices of the British Columbia Court of Appeal and justices from the Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The Court of Appeal sits in Whitehorse once a year for one week. Many of the cases are heard when the Court sits in Vancouver. There are registries in both Whitehorse and Vancouver.
The Court of Appeal for the Yukon is required by the Court of Appeal Act, RSY 2002, c.47, ss.11 and 12, to use the Rules of the Court of Appeal for British Columbia, but is also authorized to make their own rules regulating the practice and procedure of appeals.
Court of Appeal civil and criminal rules, forms and practice directions are available online. New Court of Appeal Civil rules and forms came into effect on April 29, 2005 and are available at the Vancouver Courthouse Library.
