Judges - Complaints
Last revised June 26, 2024

The Canadian Judicial Council investigates complaints regarding the conduct of federally appointed judges.  Documents, decisions and reports related to complaints which have been the subject of a formal inquiry are made publicly available on the Council website.

Complaints about provincially appointed judges are beyond the scope of the Council.  The Office of the Chief Judge handles all complaints regarding the conduct of Judicial Officers of the Provincial Court.  The complaint process is outlined on the Provincial Court of British Columbia website.

All complaints must be made in writing.  There is no form or sample letter, however anyone with a complaint should include as much of the following information as possible: court and location (i.e. which courthouse), date, name of the case and name of the judge - as well as a detailed account of the alleged misconduct.
