Disability Alliance BC (DABC) has recently translated some of their most popular resources into Arabic, Persian, Punjabi, and Spanish. DABC is an organization that works to promote a more inclusive and equitable society for people with all disabilities. Part of their work includes creating and maintaining publications with legal information helpful to people with disabilities in BC. You can find all their publications on their website.
The newly translated resources include their BC Disability Benefits Help Sheets, which explain various benefits and programs available to people with disabilities in BC and include information on how to apply for them. The Help Sheets walk people through each section of the application and often include sample letters that can be used to communicate with medical professionals concerning their part of the application.
The Help Sheets cover topics such as:
- The Persons with Disabilities (PWD) application
- The Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers (PPMB) Benefit application
- Applying for PWD while living on reserve
- Guides on appealing denials for the above benefits, both by reconsideration request and appeal tribunal
- Applying for income assistance as a person with disabilities
- How to file income taxes when receiving PWD/PPMB benefits
DABC have also translated their guides regarding the CPP Disability benefit into Arabic, Persian, Punjabi, and Spanish. These guides include information on the initial application as well as how to appeal denials through reconsideration request and at the Social Security Tribunal.
These online resources are in PDF format, meaning you can easily download and print them for clients who prefer to read offline.
