Estates Gazette
Last revised February 13, 2020

The Estates Gazette is a UK magazine for the commercial property industry.  First published in 1858, it provides property information, news and analysis and includes a practice and legal proceedings section.  Selected summaries and full transcripts of property law cases of note are published each week.

Digests of cases from the period 1902 to 1984 were also published collectively under various titles: Estates Gazette. Digest of Land and Property Cases, Digest of Cases (and Arbitrations) and Digests of Law and Arbitration Cases.

Starting in 1985, collections of Estates Gazette cases have been published under a new title, the Estates Gazette Law Reports (E.G.L.R.), either as digests or full text reports.  In 1995,  volumes covering the years 1975 to 1984 were published. As these E.G.L.R. volumes did not exist until 1995, citations to the Estates Gazette Law Reports for cases from 1975 to 1984 do not appear in texts or other citators from that time period.

Copies of the Estates Gazette from 1960 to 1974 (vols. 175 to 232) are available in the Vancouver Courthouse Library.  Full text case reports and summaries published in the Estates Gazette from 1975 to date may also be found in the Estates Gazette Law Reports.

Earlier cases may be accessed via the Lexis Advance, available on-site at all Courthouse Library locations.  Library/Files ENGGEN/CASES, COMCAS/ENGCAS and UK/ENGCAS include cases published in the Estates Gazette dating back to 1945.  Full text coverage of the magazine itself, from 1997 to current, is provided in library/files WORLD/EG, EUROPE/EG, MARKET/EG, NEWS/EG and UK/EG.

As well, an electronic version of the Estates Gazette, covering the time period from 2002 to the present is available at the Vancouver Public Library.
