The Inns of Court program was founded in 1984 by Allan McEachern (then Chief Justice of the BC Supreme Court), with judges Henry Hutcheon, John Bouck, and Josiah Wood. The program was designed to promote professionalism and competence at the Bar and was fashioned after an English tradition where junior lawyers would meet casually with senior practitioners to discuss the legal field. The Vancouver Bar Association now hosts the program.
A paper on professionalism was prepared for the project in 1985 by Allan McEachern, and an updated version of the paper can be found in Professional Legal Training Course: Practice Material, Volume 1 - "Civil, Trial" under the title "Professionalism for Litigators".
The paper can also be found in course material published by the Continuing Legal Education Society. See Advocacy Conference, Vol. 2, 14.4 "Professionalism". The paper is sometimes referred to by the title "Conduct in Court".
