There is no specific labour board in BC named the "Grievance Arbitration Board" but the term is often used generically to refer to proceedings before an arbitrator.
Arbitrators may be appointed in two ways:
- Where provided for in the collective agreement, arbitrators may be appointed privately by consensus between the parties. This could be a single arbitrator or a panel of 3 (hence "board").
- arbitrators may be appointed by the Collective Agreement Arbitration Bureau (CAAB).
All award decisions, whether by private arbitrators or by CAAB appointed arbitrators must be sent to the Collective Agreement Arbitration Bureau whereupon they are disseminated to legal publishers such as Quicklaw, Canada Law Book, CanLII, and Lancaster House.
