Insurance (Motor Vehicle) Act / Insurance (Vehicle) Act

In 2007, many changes were made to the Insurance (Motor Vehicle) Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 231. 

  • The Insurance (Motor Vehicle) Amendment Act, 2003, S.B.C. 2003, c. 94  (2003 Bill 93), changed the title of the statute to the Insurance (Vehicle) Act, as well as made substantial changes to the act.  Most of this act came into force on June 1, 2007 (B.C. Reg. 166/2006).
  • The Public Safety and Solicitor General Statutes Amendment Act, 2006, S.B.C. 2006, c. 28  (2006 Bill 31), changed the Insurance (Motor Vehicle) Amendment Act, 2003 (see above).  These amendments also came into force on June 1, 2007 (B.C. Reg. 166/2006).
  • Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act (No. 2) 2007, S.B.C. 2007, c. 24 (2007 Bill 35).  Amends the all of the above.  This bill also sets a limit of $1 million liability for leased vehicles. As per s.59, the relevant sections came into force on November 8, 2007 (B.C. Reg. 341/2007). 
  • The last regulation issued under the Insurance (Motor Vehicle) Act was B.C. Reg. 157/2007.
